TURNING SORROW INTO SMILES

Am just Seggy and I love blogging but unfortunately I hardly blog. I spent several days in Katakwi Uganda and I felt something deep down me telling me to blog something about the trip and I promised myself to Nike (just do it).Am glad am doing it right now.
To give you a little background, here I go. Katakwi is found in Teso Sub region which is in Eastern Uganda. Its population is in the neighborhood of 400,000 and its increasing daily.
The people here are so friendly and loving.
I and Cara (my workmate) drove there and it took us 8 hours to arrive and the good thing is that we weren’t complaining. I felt so happy to be back to strengthen our relationship with the communities there.
As we drove into the first Village (Appelleun) I saw happiness streaming from people’s hearts and this made me feel at home. Hundreds of children and adults surrounded us with beaming faces of hope. Our arrival signified hope for them. With God’s providence a couple in Arizona through irememberthepoor.org donated their savings to have 2 wells drilled so that people could have access to safe drinking water. So the people in this village had a reason to smile and they kept thanking us for bringing them safe water. This kept me thinking how much safe water we waste everyday yet there are millions of people dying due to lack of it. I just kept thanking God for providing clean water to these people. Had we taken longer am sure more lives would have been lost and the more guilt we would have felt.

In the comfort of our homes we do not mind about water coz we have it in plenty and we assume IT MUST BE THERE. Water is essential to all of us and it should be available to all of us at anytime. Unfortunately that is not the case in many parts of the world and worst of all YOU and ME have not done enough about it. As Christians we are automatically obliged to do to others what we would want them to do for us.

The people here have lived in Internally Displaced Peoples’ Camps for more than 20 years. These have been years of fear, Years of Sorrow, Years of hunger, Years of hardship and Years of feeling worthless. On my first trip to this area in 2009 I sobbed on seeing the kind of life these people were living. They had no food, they would eat grass and anything that would go down their tummies. I automatically fell in love them and that kicked off a relationship between them and irememberthepoor.org.
On this recent trip we brought them water containers which they would only use to store safe drinking water from the wells drilled. We also brought Bibles (in their language) and this brought happiness in the 2 villages. What a joy to see people celebrating at small things that we always take for granted. The need in these villages is so big and we shall not give up on doing good there. We are called to serve Him no matter where we are and we shall proceed to do so for His Glory.
Lots of times we close doors on many people (Children and widows inclusive) not because we have nothing to give them but just because we feel they are a burden to us. The truth is we should take on the burdens of others so that He can take on our burdens. After closing the doors on the needy we gently go before Him and ask for that Red Porsche we saw on TV commercials. For the Bible is clear “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” Luke 6:38.
At irememberthepoor.org we shall do what is needed of us to serve by deeds. We shall do what we can and God will do what He we cannot do. I already cannot wait to go visit these people and bond again. If you are interested in being part of this awakening please inbox me or contact Cindy May at cindy@irememberthepoor.org
